Houseplant Feature: Pilea Peperomiodes – Chinese Money Plant
The aesthetically pleasing Chinese Money Plant is a member of the botanical family Urticacea, which makes it a distant relative of the nettle plant! Pilea is native to Southern China. It is a compact, clump-forming plant with attractive circular leaves which gives it the name “money plant”.
The Chinese Money Plant is one of the more forgiving plants to take care of as it doesn’t like over-watering at all, so water once every 10-14 days when the compost looks dry. They enjoy bright, indirect light, somewhere bright but not in direct sunlight. They will lean towards the light so turn them regularly, or the trunk will develop a bend. The Pilea is completely non-toxic to both people and pets.
According to legend, the Pilea peperomiodes is believed to bring good luck and prosperity to the owner. If your money plant prospers, you will prosper. If your money plant reproduces readily, so will your wealth. You should remove any baby plants from the parent plant and give them away to family and friends, and this will spread the good fortune.
